Last car I had shipped from the east coast cost around $1000 and got a chipped windshield in the process. the legislature even made a law requiring sellers to furnish a current smog on older cars because so many people bought cars that needed expensive emission work or not worth the repair. Second, you could very well end up paying registration fees twice. Even a East Coast car being sold in CA will be cheaper than a rust free CA car. Used Cars from the East are always cheaper for a reason. I personally think it would not be any cheaper (if not more expensive) to purchase a vehicle in MA and then have it shipped 3000+ miles but do your own research which would be best. Car sold in other States do not have to get the strict emission certification that CA requires so you might run into trouble there but also most cars built in the last 7-8 years should be relatively compatible since most States have been tightening their emission level requirements. ~ What part of CA will you be buying it at?Ĭheck Craig's List and also as you might run into a killer buy once in a while.Īlso you could nail a good vehicle online in another State and have it shipped over to CA but as Charles mentioned, the registration will require an emission certification, meaning smog check. ~ What type of car do you want (year/make-model)? I highly doubt it since the last I heard there were 3 cars to a person so with such abundant number of cars, the prices could not be higher.
